Floating Houses

In the Netherlands, some people make floating houses, like the image on the left, to survive the frequent floods in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is like New Orleans. The country is mostly below sea level, causing many floods. When the Dutch build floating houses on the river, even if a flood causes the river to rise, the "House" will go up with it! Pretty clever people...

"The Lowlands"

"Netherlands" in Dutch means "The Lowlands", due to it's land mostly below sea level. If you look at the following images, you can see that most houses and buildings in the Netherlands are right at the same level as the water, similar to Venice. The Netherlands would have constant flooding if they did not create their many dams. They also have many rivers and lakes.

Lego

In Denmark, home of some Dutch citizens, Lego was invented as a new way of having fun with bricks. Legos are for all ages. They are still being played with. Not only in Denmark, but all around the world now! Lego has become so popular that there is now a Lego Land for all Lego-lovers.
